This Public Notice is to inform the General Public and our valued clients that former Papua New Guinea citizens who are now citizens of a foreign country and over the age of 18 years and are still holding on to a PNG passport are advised to contact this Authority immediately to surrender their PNG passports.
This Authority wishes to inform all former citizens that dual citizenship is not automatic and those that have obtained a foreign citizenship and in possession of a foreign passport have consequently automatically lost their PNG citizenship and must therefore surrender their PNG passport.
Those concerned can apply for resumption of PNG citizenship and dual citizenship if they wish to resume PNG citizenship and if successful can apply for a new PNG passport.
This Authority is imposing a 3 months moratorium which ends on 31 October 2017 for those concerned to surrender PNG passports in their possession to be cancelled.
Appropriate penalties will be imposed on those former citizens who continue to hold and use PNG passports to travel beyond the moratorium period.
This Public Notice is not applicable to those who are below the age of 18 years and hold both PNG and a foreign passport but they must decide to renounce or maintain (through naturalisation or dual citizenship process) their PNG citizenship before they reach the age of 19 years.
For any further information or query on this Notice or dual citizenship, please refer to the ICSA website; www.immigration.gov.pg or email: [email protected] or [email protected]. You can also contact Client Service Branch on telephone: 3276100 for assistance.
I take this opportunity to thank the General Public and our valued clients for your understanding and cooperation in this exercise.
