Employment Visa

About This Visa

Individuals, including some residents are required to apply for this visa if they intend to engage in paid employment in Papua New Guinea.

Criteria that must be met

The eligibility requirements for an Employment visa will vary depending on the purpose and period of time you wish to remain in Papua New Guinea, and your personal circumstances. For example if you are the dependent of a Papua New Guinea citizen or you are the dependent of a primary visa applicant.

Depending on your circumstances, you may be asked to provide ICA with evidence to support your application.

Employment visas are issued subject to the individual circumstances of the traveller.

How to apply

  1. Complete the Online Application for both Work Permit and Employment Visa through the Sponsor Portal https://evisa.ica.gov.pg/evisa/account/SponsorLogin
  2. Pay the Work Permit Application Fee together with the Migration Service Fee (MSF) as set out in the Entry Permit Fee Form at the time of submission. Do not pay on MICA for a separate receipt 
  3. Provide passport and documentary evidence as follows:
    • Certificate of Incorporation and IPA company extract;/An Act of Parliament
    • IPA certificate permitting a foreign enterprise to conduct business in PNG (if applicable).
    • Maintenance Guarantee Bond;
    • Company Structure/Organisational Structure;
    • Educational qualifications and CV
    • Job Description
    • Copy of Passport Bio page
    • Signed Employment Contract (employer and employee)
    • Recent coloured passport-sized photo
    • Police Clearance Certificate
    • Completed and signed New Work Permit Application (Form 1)
    • Company Structure
    • Medical Examination Report
    • PNG Professional Registration (if applicable)
    • Letter from PNG-based sponsor

Note: Employers will now apply for a work permit together with the Visa application through ICSA online Sponsor portal or at the ICSA Office

Extension of stay

Depending on the type of visa you have been issued, you may be eligible to extend your stay in Papua New Guinea without leaving the country.

The eligibility requirements for a visa extension will vary depending on your personal circumstances, which include the purpose and the period of time you have already spent in Papua New Guinea, and length of the extension sought.

Change of circumstances

If your circumstances change at any time during the visa application process or after your visa is issued, you must inform ICA. A change in circumstances may affect your ongoing eligibility for the visa issued.

If your circumstances have changed, please notify ICA immediately.
